  • Medical uses: Silicon is used in body implants like breast implants.  
  • Contact lenses: These include silicon as one of their main elements.  
  • Alloys: Ferrosilicon, for example, is an alloy combining iron and silicon. It prevents the formation of cementite upon exposure to air.
